Vertical was back on the road last weekend scaring up excitement at MonsterMania in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Horror-fied fans screamed with delight at the free copies of J-Horror mastermind Koji Suzuki’s Dark Water that marketing manager Stephen Vrattos was handing out, each book containing an exclusive and terrifying Vertical J-Horror bookmark. Stephen also had autographed copies of Ring that fans were eager to take a stab at winning. Stephen’s verdict on the three-day event: “We killed ’em!”

Suzuki’s Ring trilogy spawned a horror phenomenon at the box-offices that continues with the slated production for Ring 2, starring Naomi Watts. Keep up with the original sequel to Ring and get Spiral in May, because you don’t know what the Ring is yet. Vertical is also proud to announce that we will be publishing another Suzuki work of horror; a short story collection called Dark Water, due out Oct. 2004, to be released prior to the movie-remake starring Jennifer Connelly.

Vertical to publish RING sequels SPIRAL and LOOP

Tuesday, July 1st, 2003

The critics agree:

“Each event in Ring is slower and quieter than its successor.”
–John Clute, Sci Fi Weekly
“A novel that reads much more like a short story, and moves just as quickly.”
–James Michael White, SF Reader

Koji Suzuki’s brainy thriller, at any rate, is just the beginning. Following on the success of Ring , Vertical is proud to announce that it will be publishing the rest of the highly acclaimed trilogy. Spiral is planned for early 2004.

“Readers will want to read the next book in this series with a palpable addictive twinge. The good news is that translations of both sequels are in the works, and the following two are likely to make it here before any of the movies do. Readers can then enjoy the additional pleasure of knowing how much better the book is before they see the movie rather than after.”
– Rick Kleffel, The Agony Column
